On Sunday night, Musk asked Twitter users if they thought he should leave his position as the company’s CEO.
At the time the survey was closed on Monday morning, 57.5% of respondents said he ought to resign, while only 42.5% disagreed.
Musk had promised Sunday night that “I will abide by the results of this poll.” He subsequently added: “Those that desire power are the ones who least deserve it. As the phrase goes, be careful what you wish for, as you just might get it.” No one wants the position that can genuinely keep Twitter alive, according to Musk.
The company’s role for Musk was the subject of a poll that came after a recent flurry of divisive policy choices.
Twitter put a ban on links to other social media networks on Saturday, a move Musk has decried as free advertising for other social media services. But a day later, Twitter took down a blog entry and a Twitter conversation that had described the rule.
